Hundred of loads of rocky dirt from Riddle Quarries have been dumped into the ravine on the north side of Main Street between McKibbin’s Cabinet Shop and Dr. C.R. Magee’s office. The fill will make a decided improvement and will make a valuable business site as it is directly across the street from the city park.

In a lengthy award session at Marion High School May 17 Kathryn Popp was recognized as valedictorian of the class of 1950 and Max Merrill was honored with the Balfour Award. Other special awards and scholarships went to Tim Burkholder, Darlene Richmond, Verona Vinduska, Nora Zeller, and James Fruechting.

Marion’s next telephone directory will be issued in book form and will contain a “Yellow Page” section similar to directories in the largest cities. Marion has outgrown the card type directory says L.R. Simpson, manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.

Barbara McDaris was honored at a going-away party hosted by Carol Beth Miser Tuesday afternoon. Guests included Wanda McDaris, Carolyn Merrill, Twila Hoopes, Judy Thatch, Ann Davies, Noretta Starkey, Janet Priddle, and Wanda Propp.
