Summer ended abruptly Friday morning and people awoke to find a blanket of snow covering everything.

James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion will once again this year celebrate Armistice Day with a carnival in the basement of the Marion City Building.

The congregation of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion is celebrating its 50th anniversary all day this Sunday, Nov. 12. Three services are among the program planned.

An article, written by Homer Socolofsky, history instructor at Kansas State College and a Marion High School graduate, has been published in the Kansas Historical Quarterly.

The article, entitled “The Scully Land System in Marion County,” tells of William Scully, owner of the largest acreage of farm land in the United States.

Billie Herbert and Carmen Siebert entertained with a Pirate Gold Treasure Hunt and Halloween costume party at the Herbert home last Tuesday evening, Kay Navrat won the prize for the best costume. Guests were girls in the 7th grade.

Twenty-five officers attended the invitational pistol shoot in Marion Sunday. Organizations represented included Newton, Hillsboro, and Marion police departments and Hutchinson and Newton highway patrols. First prizes were awarded to L.W. VanHorne, Marion; Fred Michaels, Hillsboro; and Kenneth Roberts, Hutchinson.
