W.H. “Bus” Sly and Ed Costello are pictured as they prepare nine boxes of toys for shipment to children overseas by the local American Legion post.
Most of the toys for the Legion’s “Tide of Toys” drive were collected by local school children and will be enjoyed by refugee children in Japan, Germany, and Korea.
Installation was completed this week on a chimes and broadcasting system at the Presbyterian church given in honor of early day Marion residents, Mr. and Mrs. George T. Donaldson, by their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Phillips of Greensburg.
Residents in several homes south of Hillsboro have been made especially happy when their long vigil for electricity came to an end this week when the REA finally made it to their community.
Drink a cup of coffee at one of these cafés, Coons’ Restaurant, Del Mar, Bob’s Grill, Lee’s Café, Cubby Hole, Cozy, Rainbow, or the Owl Car on Monday and you will be donating to the Marion County “March of Dimes” campaign.
Restaurant operators will not collect for the coffee but will offer you an “iron lung” bank in which you can plunk in a dime or a quarter, or whatever.
