The Santa Fe Railway has made application to the State Corporation Commission to discontinue their daily motor passenger and mail train (the familiar “Doodle Bug’) on the Florence-Ellinwood branch line through Marion and Hillsboro. A hearing date is being set this week by the commission on the railroads’ appeal.
Announcement is made this week of the purchase of a one-half interest in the Hannaford-Gardner abstracting firm by Dean C. Batt, Marion attorney, from Mrs. Roger Hannaford, present owner.
A breathtaking frenzied basketball game Friday night on the Marion court came to a climax in the final seconds of the game with a swishing basket by Gene Christensen to break the sixth tied score of the last half and give Marion a 45-43 win over the Trojan rivals from Hillsboro.
Donnie Westerhaus celebrated his 5th birthday Monday when his mother, Mrs. Edwin G. Westerhaus invited some of his friends to a party.
The children played games and later listened intently to a radio program from KFBI when birthday greetings were extended to Donnie.
Refreshments were served to guests Tommy Tucker, Maxie Jackson, Charles Herbert, Larry Ensey, Mrs. Ira Newcomer, and Mary Westerhaus. Each child received a favor of a toy steam roller.
