There is a strong possibility that Congress in the coming session may authorize the construction of four dams, of which the Cottonwood Valley dam would be one for flood control in the Neosho Valley.

A picture on the front page is of diapered Mike Broadstreet, shouting his surprise and glee at seeing and feeling real snow for the first time. Mike, son of Mr. and Mrs. Berle Broadstreet, and his 5-year-old sister, Suzanne, recently arrived in Marion from California with their parents.

Events occurring in the community during 1947 include the adding of 66 babies to the community, with all but one being born in the Marion hospital.

Jan. 1 will be the anniversary of the Marion airport, where operation began in 1946. The first four to receive instructions from Bernice Hahn, flight instructor, were Melvin Christner, Harry Haas, Oliver Unruh, and Ronald Atkinson.

Engagements announced in this issue include those of Neva Mary Brunner to Jack M. Applegate, both of Ramona; Irene Annie Larsen, Peabody, to Walter D. Schmidt, Newton; Virginia Mae Miller, Durham, to Clyde Kissinger, Hastings, Nebraska; and Joan Kelsey, Marion, to Roy Pagenkopf, Lincolnville.

A new 1,200-horsepower diesel engine ordered last February from Fairbanks-Morse has arrived and will be installed immediately on a new foundation awaiting it at the municipal power plant.
