Herbert J. Kindred, 60-year-old Emporia businessman, was brutally beaten, shot repeatedly, and left dying on a lonely road five miles west of Florence.

Kindred’s body was found Wednesday morning beside the little used road near Fairplay Schoolhouse by Louis Hargett, a farmer living about 10 miles south of Marion.

Robbery and a desirable get-away car are suspected as motives for the killing.

Twelve Boy Scouts spent an enjoyable week at Roaring River State Park near Cassville, Missouri. Those attending from here were Dan Brodhead, Don Ecker, Ted Heath, Dale Hobein, Billy McKibbin, Marion Moon, John Newcomer, James Propp, Dennis Richards, Harold Shields, Joe Soyez, and Marvin Wunsch.

Marion Creamery’s pasteurized milk customers are happy over the new square bottles put in use recently.

Main features of the new shape, according to manager Gordon Wolf, are that they take up considerably less space in a refrigerator and are easier to handle.

The company also recently installed new bottle washing and milk processing equipment to its modern plant.
