Herbert J. Kindred, 60-year-old Emporia businessman, was brutally beaten, shot repeatedly, and left dying on a lonely road five miles west of Florence.

Kindred’s body was found Wednesday morning beside the little used road near Fairplay Schoolhouse by Louis Hargett, a farmer living about 10 miles south of Marion.

Robbery and a desirable get-away car are suspected as motives for the killing.

Marion Creamery’s pasteurized milk customers are happy over the new square bottles put in use recently.

Main features of the new shape, according to manager Gordon Wolf, are that they take up considerably less space in a refrigerator and are easier to handle.

The company also recently installed new bottle washing and milk processing equipment to its modern plant.

Donna Miesse entertained last Friday evening at a back-to-school party for some of her friends. Those attending were June Avery, Tim Burkholder, Jim Fruechting, Lee Hett, Patsy Hett, Roger Ireland, Joyce Keazer, Patricia Platt, Dolores Razor, and Richard Rhode.
