While the new US-77 from the three-mile corner east of Marion to the junction just west of Florence has not officially been opened to through traffic, the road is now open for local use during good weather. No surfacing on the road has been done to date, and it should not be traveled during wet weather.

O.W. “Gus” Newlon, popular manager of the local Duckwall’s store, was elected Dec. 14 to lead the Marion Chamber of Commerce for 1949.

Military services for Private Bob C. Mott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mott, formerly of Marion, were conducted Thursday at Leavenworth. A 1943 graduate of Marion High School, he was killed in Belgium early in 1945.

Pictured are Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Regier, who were married Dec. 5. Mrs. Regier is the former Eileen Hoover, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hoover.

A familiar sight will be missing from Marion’s streets now that Nodie Baker has retired his Model T Ford pickup.

After 22 years of shaking hands with the little truck each morning to get it started, he has decided to turn the Ford out to pasture and let it pass the rest of its years in peace.

He has purchased a Model A Ford pickup and will use it as his paint wagon.
