Mennonite History Tour is May 8

Dr. Peter Klassen, Professor Emeritus of History at Fresno State University, Fresno, Calif., will lead a local Mennonite history bus tour on May 8, beginning at 12:15 p.m. at the Tabor College Historic Church, across from the Tabor campus.

It will include stops at Brunk Cemetery, Gnadenau Village, Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church, a Peabody monument, Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church, a Walton marker, Hochfeld, sites at French Creek, Johannestal, and Bruderthal, and Hillsboro Main Street.

Seating is limited. The cost is $22, which includes a light lunch.

At 6:30 p.m. that evening at Wohlgemuth Music Education Center, Klassen will present “The Story of Polish/Prussian Mennonites.”

He will speak from his years of experience and research and his ongoing relationship with Polish communities.

The cost is $14 for the dinner program.

To make reservations for either or both events, contact Peggy Goertzen, director of the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies, at (620) 947-3121 or by e-mail: peggyg@tabor.edu.

Klassen, chairman of the Mennonite Brethren Historical Commission, was tour leader for a 2008 Tabor College centennial tour to Poland and Ukraine. His newest book, “Mennonites in Early Modern Poland and Prussia,” will be available for purchase at the dinner program.
