Met Opera tenor to perform Thursday at Tabor

Opera enthusiasts will have a rare opportunity to hear a member of the country’s premier opera company when tenor Hugo Vera performs at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Richert Auditorium of the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts at Tabor College.

Vera is an accomplished artist who has performed 34 roles and 20 choral orchestral works with distinguished American companies and is a part of The Metropolitan Opera artist roster.

“To my knowledge, we have never had a singer of his caliber visit Tabor and perform a recital,” said Jen Stephenson, director of vocal music. “As a multi-season veteran of The Metropolitan Opera in New York City — arguably the best opera house in the world — we are so lucky to be able to bring him here to Hillsboro, and I’m so thrilled that our students will have a chance to work with him in a master class setting while he is with us.”

Vera will be accompanied by Jeb Wallace, principal horn with the Wichita Symphony and assistant professor of horn at Wichita State University, and pianist J. Bradley Baker, collaborative pianist and vocal coach at Tabor. Stephenson will join Vera to perform duets from “Carmen” and “La boheme.”
