Middle schoolers enjoy fun in sun

Staff writer

Friday’s weather was perfect for an annual day at the lake for Marion Middle School students.

The event, offered every fall, gives students an opportunity to get out into the fresh air and nature to learn different things from standard reading, writing, mathematics, and science.

Students rowed assorted boats on the lake, learned fishing skills, created art works, played ball and other games, gathered in groups to chat, walked, played family reunion games, shot archery, did parachute ball toss, and roasted marshmallows to make s’mores.

In between, they lined up for grilled hamburgers with fixings, chips, and canned soft drinks, and stood or found a place to sit to eat lunch.

It takes about 25 staff members, parents, and volunteers to supervise and interact with students while they enjoy activities at different stations around the lake.

Friday’s weather was perfect to add swimming to the mix of activities. The weather isn’t always balmy enough for swimming.
