Most offices open as usual

The county courthouse and most county offices are now open as usual, although social distancing is expected.

All entrances to the courthouse re-opened Monday.

“We won’t have individual screeners and check in at the door anymore,” county clerk Tina Spencer said. “Each office will be responsible for regulating its own traffic flow, and we will post signs and tape in the hallway to encourage everyone to follow the recommended health guidelines.”

Visitors are being asked to practice social distancing, wear masks, wash hands, and stay home when sick.

Spencer said most county department heads are comfortable with fully reopening to public access. Sneeze panels earlier installed will remain in place.

“The commission room will still have social distancing in place, and we will have additional viewing area in the hall,” Spencer said.

The lake hall at Marion County Park and Lake is now open with no limit on the number of people who can attend an event.

Commissioners decided Friday to post signs at the hall telling visitors that social distancing is “highly recommended.”

Commissioner Kent Becker said it was time for people to take responsibility for their health and safety — and the safety of others.

Masks mainly protect others, not mask wearers.

Commissioner Randy Dallke recommended that signs recommending social distancing also be posted at the swimming beach but commissioners decided signs would be sufficient and staff members would not enforce the recommendations.

Commissioner David Crofoot asked whether lake hall rent should be increased to cover expense of sanitizing after events.

Lake supervisor Isaac Hett said few events were being scheduled close together.

The county department on aging office will open to the public Monday. Marion Senior Center will resume serving friendship meals inside the building on that day, but people are urged to call ahead and make reservations.

Drivers’ license services will open again in June with specific hours on Tuesday and Thursday.
