Moundridge defeats Goessel boys, 48-34

Staff writer

For eight minutes, the Goessel Bluebirds kept pace with Moundridge on Friday, but didn’t have the horses to go the distance, falling 48-34.

The teams were tied at the end of the first quarter 12-12. But Goessel’s offense sputtered in the second period, scoring just 4 points, and Moundridge went into halftime with a 25-16 lead.

Jordan Griffin hit a season high 14 points, but the halftime deficit was too large to overcome as the Wildcats enjoyed a 36-26 lead at the end of three periods. The Bluebirds were unable to gain ground in the final quarter as Moundridge coasted to a 48-34 win.

Griffin ended with 14 points, Rhett Makovec dropped in 8, and Josh Schmidt 6.

The Goessel boys are now 5-8 overall and will return to Wheat State League action with home games with Little River and Centre this week.
