Hillsboro High School drama department will present “The Butler Did It!” Friday and Saturday at the high school auditorium.
HHS will present the murder mystery parody as a dinner theater. The meal will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the performance at 7:30 p.m.
The play is about detective fiction writers invited to a party as their famous characters, but find themselves in a murder mystery.
HHS last presented a dinner theater in spring 2000, director Terry Bebermeyer said. He wanted to do another dinner theater production because it is a more intimate presentation.
For junior Rochelle Cecil — playing Charity Haze — spending time with her friends is an important part of the play.
“I love the cast,” Cecil said.
The play marks Cecil’s fifth play. She appeared last spring in “Meet me in St. Louis” at HHS, and in three plays while she was at Goddard High School.
Senior Brandon McMillen is the only cast member to appear in four spring dramas. He is playing Louie Fan.
McMillen said funny things that happen during rehearsals are his favorite part of being in a play.
Auditions were held at the end of January, Bebermeyer said. Rehearsals began in early February, but were infrequent because of basketball season. Dress rehearsals began Monday.
Cast members are Cody Blackketter, Cecil, Nolan Dirks, Clara Ens, Joe Fisher, McMillen, Hayley Pankratz, Jordan Riggs, Amanda Roble, and Heidi Schroeder.
Tickets are available at the HHS office and cost $15. Seating is limited, and no tickets will be sold at the door.
