Name chosen for Tabor new fine arts center

Staff writer

A new fine arts building being planned by Tabor College will be named the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts after a substantial donation made by the family from Nebraska.

“The family gave the college a $2 million gift, so to honor the donors we decided to let them have the naming rights,” said Ron Braun, vice president of advancement.

The project is still in its planning stages. According to Braun, the college has 60 percent of the funding it needs to move the project into the next step.

“This project has been in the works for two years and is not near the drawing board yet,” Braun said. “We plan to go public with the donation process in 2014. Right now we’re still looking for large private donations.”

A new addition on the northwest part of campus will feature two stages, one for performances and another for lectures and recitals. It will also feature an art gallery, rehearsal halls, classrooms, and studios.
