Jessica West, new head cook at Hillsboro Senior Center, has 20 years of experience.
She started at age 14, working at a truck stop near her small hometown in Nebraska.
“I loved working at the truck stop,” she said. “I served truckers, and they always were so grateful for the food. They liked to visit, too.”
She worked at several steak houses before becoming executive chef at an army national guard training camp at Ashland, Nebraska.
West now lives at Galva.
“I moved to Kansas because my dad passed away, and I came to take care of my mom,” she said.
She is happy to be back working as a cook. She plans to begin cooking from scratch, “right down to the noodles,” she said.
