New county appraiser to work remotely

Staff writer

Carl Miller, hired Monday as county appraiser, will work remotely from his Great Bend home while he juggles appraiser duties for Stafford and Ellsworth counties as well.

County commissioners appointed Miller to the position Monday. He will be back in Marion Friday, then will be in the office at least every other Monday.

“We’re going to do certain things by remote,” Miller said. “I’ll be live certain days and remote the rest of the time.”

Miller has been an appraiser 40 years and has never stopped enjoying the work.

He’s been Stafford County appraiser since 1989. He worked in the Ellsworth County appraiser’s office since 1989 and was appointed county appraiser there in 1992.

He formerly was Pawnee County appraiser, but resigned that post in January.

“What makes it possible is that our Orion computer system is the same for each county,” Miller said. “We may do things a little differently in each county, but every county has the same guidelines and same laws.”
