New owners make business in Hillsboro

Staff writer

Whitney Dirks said she and partner Lauryn Unruh have had full days working since the opening of Shear Ambitions hair salon June 11.

Dirks and Unruh, both 25, met while working at a McPherson salon, deciding to go into business together in Hillsboro.

“We both have kids,” Dirks said, “so we decided we’re going to go part-time and do our own salon.”

Shear Ambitions offers all hair services — cutting, coloring, and perming — as well as pedicures, manicures, and shellac nail polish.

“We’ve actually been really busy lately, so it’s really good,” Dirks said.

The salon is open Monday through Saturday at 807½ E. D St. Appointments can be made by either contacting Unruh at (620) 504-2185 and Dirks at (620) 755-1755.

La Cabana changes to El Lorito

When the previous ownership of Mexican restaurant La Cabana contacted Juan Gomez about selling their building to the El Cerrito Corporation, he took the chance to expand.

La Cabana then became El Lorito, an extension of the El Cerrito restaurant located in Hesston.

“We took the building, the restaurant, and changed the name,” Gomez said. “It’s the same menu. We added some plates and took out what we don’t serve.”

Manager Sid Barraza said menu changes included different varieties of enchiladas, big burritos, and additions of grilled cheese sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, and corndogs.
