Open house planned
American Legion Riders will escort Sgt. Ryan Newell and his family to their new home at 10:40 a.m. June 26.
A key presentation and open house, sponsored by Homes for Our Troops and Hett Construction, will be at 11 a.m. June 26 at 1001 Tanglewood Street, Marion.
The procession will begin at Marion VFW and will travel on Main Street to the Newell home.
Parking will be limited, so participants and visitors may have to park and walk. Motorcycle parking will be three blocks away and Legion Riders will walk behind the Color Guard and Newell’s vehicle.
Volunteers began the building project April 16 as part of the Homes for Our Troops program.
Newell was wounded two years ago in the line of duty in Afghanistan, causing him to lose both legs and the ability to live in the family home. The new home is designed so Newell will be able to have access to his children’s bedrooms, the bathrooms, and the kitchen.
Following the presentation and open house, the VFW and American Legion will serve a lunch at the VFW, 420 W. Santa Fe St., Marion. A free will donation will be collected for the Ryan Newell Homes for Our Troops Building Fund.
