Nine Trojans honored by MCAA

Kaufman a unanimous decision

Hillsboro High School filled the Mid-Central Activities Association post-season teams with nine recipients from the football and volleyball teams.

Two seniors took up three spots on the football all-league first-teams.

Daniel Jost was named as a wide receiver and defensive back. Ishmael Morris, the team’s leading rusher, was one of three running backs on the team.

Tyler Lofton was the lone Trojan on the second-team, named for his play on the offensive line. The senior also earned honorable mention honors as a defensive lineman.

Two more seniors, Andy Klassen and Brandon Brown, rounded out the Trojan football recipients.

Klassen was named for his play as a defensive lineman and Brown earned the award as a linebacker.

The Trojans were knocked out in the first round of the state playoff by Hutchinson Trinity, and finished with a 6-4 record.

Junior Dakota Kaufman joined Hesston’s Dominque Chew as the only players to be named unanimously to the MCAA volleyball first-team.

Kaufman was the leading hitter on the 28-13 state-qualifying team.

Kaufman’s classmate, Candace Weinbrenner, was named to the second team, while seniors Kassidi Luthi and Tiffany Rooker earned honorable mention awards.
