Northwest of Durham: Rain creates entertainment

This community received an excessive amount of rain since Aug. 6, anywhere from five to eight inches of rain through Saturday. The rain provided some lively entertainment Saturday for some of our grandchildren. Katelin, Sarah, and Nathan Unruh went tubing in the shallow water on our hayfield. Grandpa pulled them back and forth down the stream with his four-wheeler, much to their delight. They did not mind getting wet at all.

The Gene Redger family ate dinner Friday evening at Newton in honor of Jaraine’s birthday.

Sunday dinner guests at the home of Larry and Wanda Koehn were Bruce and Cheryl Dirks, Travis Koehn and family, and Carol Ann Unruh.

Dean and Pauline Becker of Halstead gave a report of their mission work in India Sunday evening at Morning Star Church. They plan to return for another term.

Elaine Claassen and family of Mississippi have been visiting at the home of her father, Irvin Isaac and the Stuart Isaac family. All of them and the Nelson Wiebe family were Sunday dinner guests of Clayton and Betty Wiebe. Elaine’s husband, Gerry couldn’t come because of duties at their fish farm.

School began Wednesday for students in USD 410. The Cottonwood Grove Christian School will begin classes Tuesday. Teachers will be Sara Peachy of Pennsylvania, upper grades; Katie Stutzman of Oklahoma, middle grades; Jana Wiebe, lower grades; and Beth Koehn of Tennessee, special education.

Clayton and Betty Wiebe attended a sale at her cousin’s Saturday at Moundridge.

Jaraine Redger attended the Decker reunion Sunday at Canton.

Clayton and Betty Wiebe were among those who attended the wedding reception for Kevin and Kayla Hiebert who recently were married at Versailles, Mo.

Sunday evening visitors of Bruce and Cheryl Dirks were Dean and Pauline Becker, Travis and Connie Becker and Garret, Wendell and Linda Wedel, Greg and Charlene Wedel and family, and Ruston and Lydia Dirks.
