Oelschlager

To the editor:

I’ve been an admirer and subscriber of the Marion County Record since it fought the law and the law lost.

It was a bit of a surprise and serendipity in reading the May 14 issue when I ran across a biography of an old medical student I supervised in 1968 or ’69, Ron Oelschlager.

I remember Ron as an excellent medical student, electively rotating through the oncology service with a keen eye for observation, including a life-saving diagnosis of pneumothorax in a cancer patient — a diagnosis he made by sheer observation from across the room.

Our paths crossed briefly as I left the Medical Center and started working in Lawrence and he retired from radiology at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in the1990s.

So it was with a bit of nostalgia that I saw the very nicely written bio and his contributions to the Marion community over the years in the recent edition of the newspaper.
