REPORTED

These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Theft

Thomas W. Britain, rural Florence, reported that a billboard opposed to wind farms that he had placed near US-50 and Sunflower Rd. was stolen Jan. 24 or early Jan. 25.

He valued the billboard at $200.

HILLSBORO

Domestic violence, disorderly conduct

Newly hired Marion County sheriff’s deputy Byron D. McDonald, 39, Hillsboro, was arrested after he allegedly kicked his 36-year-old live-in girlfriend during a domestic disturbance at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at a rented residence they shared in the 100 block of N. Washington St. in Hillsboro.

Officer John Huebert’s report stated that the girlfriend suffered no apparent injury.

McDonald was taken to Marion County Jail but was not booked, according to the jail’s online roster. McPherson County Jail confirmed Monday that he was transferred there, but his name does not show up on that jail’s roster, and jailers there would not comment on his status.

McDonald was a city police officer in Neodesha before joining the Marion County sheriff’s department. He started patrolling county roads just a week before his arrest.

According to monitored transmissions, as many as five other officers, including a second Hillsboro officer, the undersheriff, and three sheriff’s deputies may have responded to the domestic disturbance.

Sheriff Jeff Soyez said he fired McDonald after the incident.
