These offense reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Burglary

Owner Joel R. Hayes of Moundridge reported that a riding mower valued at $2,300 was stolen between 7 p.m. April 26 and 10 a.m. April 27 from Hayes Auto Salvage and Service, just east of Florence on US-50, according to a report released Friday.

Battery

Michael L. Ehrlich told sheriff’s deputies a neighbor made physical contact with him in a rude, insulting, or angry manner during a dispute between 5:40 and 5:55 p.m. May 1 at Ehrlich’s home in the 400 block of E. Cincinnati Ave. in Burns.

William P. Castleberry, 46, Burns, was arrested on suspicion of battery. He was released from county jail 30 minutes later after posting a $2,000 bond.

Ehrlich was not injured, according to a report by deputy Kaylan Miles.

HILLSBORO

Drug, alcohol, and explosives charges

Two smoking devices, 7.66 grams of marijuana (enough for nearly two dozen “joints”), 1.2 grams of methamphetamine (about six doses), and an open container of whiskey were seized at 9:20 p.m. Thursday in an alley in the 200 block of S. Date St. after Hillsboro officer John Huebert stopped a driver wanted for failing to appear in court.

Huebert called deputy Joshua Meliza’s drug-sniffing dog, Karma, after stopping a vehicle driven by Nicholas S. Hoffner, 32, Durham.

Also found in an ensuing search, according to Huebert’s report, was a carbon dioxide cartridge modified to be a homemade explosive device.

An offense report filed by Huebert listed offenses criminally concealing explosives, transporting an open container of alcohol, and possessing marijuana for a second time, stimulants, and drug paraphernalia.

Hoffner was booked into county jail for failing to appear in court and on suspicion of a slightly different set of charges — possessing stimulants, marijuana, another controlled substance, and drug paraphernalia.

Hoffner, previously jailed Jan. 22 and 23 on suspicion of violating an order of protection from abuse, was held in lieu of $40,000 in bonds.

Vehicle burglary

Jordan S. Simmons, 26, reported that two ratchets and a Bluetooth speaker, together valued at $450, were stolen between 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. Friday from his vehicle while it was parked near his home in the 100 block of N. Lincoln St.

Firearm theft

Sharon K. German, 62, reported that two 9mm handguns — a Glock and a Smith and Wesson — were stolen between 5 p.m. Jan. 30 and 6:45 p.m. Saturday from her residence in the 200 block of S. Washington St.

No signs of forced entry were found, according to an offense report.

Vehicle burglary

Carolyn S. Stiver, 68, reported that jumper cables, a socket set, and a women’s jacket, together valued at $130, were stolen from her vehicle between 3 p.m. May 12 and 4:50 a.m. May 13 while it was parked in a lot near her residence at Grand Oaks Apartments.

No signs of forced entry were found, according to an offense report.
