Oil, gas firms owe $38,000

Staff writer

Eight oil and gas companies and 11 people together owe $38,892.71 in unpaid oil and gas taxes.

County treasurer Jeannine Bateman said the treasurer’s office will file tax warrants in district court as the first step toward collecting the money owed.

Other measures will be taken as well.

If non-payers have vehicles anywhere in the state of Kansas they can’t renew them without paying the oil and gas taxes owed, Bateman said.

“If the well is producing, we will go to their gas purchaser and file a lien against their production,” Bateman said. “Any way we can, we try to get it.”

The oil and gas companies together are $38,036.46 delinquent. Individuals owe a total of $856.25.

Under his own name, Svitak is $461.18 behind in oil and gas taxes.
