Ollenburger places in top 10 at home tourney

Out of 51 competitors, Hillsboro golfers Evan Ollenburger placed eighth with a score of 94, Philip Ediger came in 32nd with a 109, and Alex Dalke shot a 117 to finish 44th on Friday in the Hillsboro Invitational golf tournament.

Coach Scott O’Hare was pleased to see Ollenburger place in top 10 but both he and Ollenburger had expected a better score.

“The swing corrections we have made recently seem to be working in practice, but I think he reverts back to old habits when he gets on the course, particularly in a competitive situation,” O’Hare said.

He hopes to see Ollenburger score in the low 80s after he becomes comfortable and confident with the changes.

“The same could be said for Ediger,” O’Hare said. “His swing really started to come around through the middle of last week after we made some changes on the driving range. It looked more natural and more fluid.”

Although Ediger was striking the ball well in the tournament, O’Hare said his short game wasn’t where it needed to be.

On Friday, Dalke scored much better than he did in his first tournament. O’Hare said Dalke had become more comfortable with a number of changes in his swing and short game they worked on.

Hillsboro’s next action is Thursday in Salina.
