Pasture walk set for July 7-8

The Tampa farm of David Rhiza is the location for a “Look and Learn Pasture Walk” Tuesday.

The walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. at David Rziha’s pasture July 7.

“They will meet at Tampa ball park,” said Rziha. “Then they’ll go to my place if it’s dry. If, for some reason, we get a whole bunch of rain, then we are going to go somewhere else.”

“Pasture walks can be very informative for producers to attend,” said K-State range scientist Keith Harmoney. “They’ll get to see something different than their own pastures, but also very similar.

Pastures are chosen for environmental and ecological components that can have direct bearing on management practices.

Any and all topics are open for discussion, including wildlife habitat management.

Doug Spencer, NRCS rangeland management specialist, Marion, will assist with this walk.

The walks provide excellent opportunities for producers to see firsthand what works and what doesn’t and learn new techniques in problem-solving from peers and specialists alike, Kraft said.

There is no charge, but registration is encouraged. Contact Mary Howell at (785)-562-8726 with questions or to register.
