Peabody foundation awards grants

Peabody Community Foundation awarded $10,000 to 10 community projects Feb. 3 during its annual pancake feed and pancake race day.
In the pancake race, children ages 2 to 11 flipped pancakes in a skillet as they raced to the finish line.
First place winners by age were Ruth Unruh, 2; Asher Yoder, 4; Ariah Chase, 5: Tanynn Yoder, 6, Mackenzie Phelps, 7; Ana Chase, 8; Ryker Yoder, 10; and Winston Bourbon, 11.
Community awards given by the foundation were:
- $1,000 to Peabody Community Angel Tree program to provide Christmas meals and gifts for families who do not have means to buy them.
- $1,500 to Families Financial Assistance Network program operated by Families and Children Together. The program provides emergency financial assistance for critical services on a one-time-per-year basis.
- $2,000 to Peabody Christmas Light Fund to check and replace lights every year and maintain Christmas displays downtown.
- $500 to Peabody’s Court Appointed Special Advocate program to provide advocates for victimized children in the Peabody area.
- $600 to Peabody Senior Center for window improvement.
- $1,000 to Peabody Fall Festival to expand activities during the week leading up to the event.
- $250 to a Safe Kids swim program to provide free swimming lessons at the city pool for children ages 5 to 10.
- $1,000 to Peabody Township Library to bring music performers, dramatic readers, and other entertainment to a newly added front porch.
- $650 to Sunflower Theatre to present an African Americans Renewing Interest in Spirituals Ensemble performance March 23.
- $1,500 to Safe Haven Start Up to develop a Getting Ahead program and use a Bridges curriculum to attempt to eliminate a poverty mindset in Peabody.
