Katherine Nickel Hiebert Schmidt Penner will turn 100 on Sept. 9. She was born Sept. 9, 1912, in Washita County near Clinton, Okla., the youngest of 12 children.

She married Dan Hiebert on April 2, 1938, in Hillsboro, and they farmed west of town. Dan died in 1957. She then married Harry Schmidt on Jan. 2, 1960. Harry died in 1966. She married Paul Penner on Feb. 14, 1976. Paul died in 1982.

She has four sons, Robert Hiebert of Abilene, Paul Hiebert of Bridgeton, Mo., Charles Hiebert of Alexandria, Va., and Larry Penner of Newton; one daughter, Mary Beck of Minot, N.D.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She will celebrate her birthday with a casual come-and-go party in the dining room of Parkside Home in Hillsboro, where she now lives.
