Phyllis Jensen
Phyllis J. Jensen passed away June 9, 2018, at her home at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska, at the age of 88.
Phyllis was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Marion to Willard and Helen (Richmond) Suffield.
The family lived on a farm northeast of Marion until it was taken by a tornado. They moved to Wichita for a couple of years but were happy to move back to Marion in 1945.
Phyllis was a drum majorette during her senior year at Marion High School. She graduated with the class of 1947.
In 1948, she married Fred Allen. The couple were blessed with two children, Coni and Maurice.
Phyllis attended Venus Academy of Beauty and received her cosmetology license. She worked for a friend for a little over a year before starting her own salon.
She and Fred built an addition on to their home and opened Allen’s Brush and Curl.
They eventually moved to Manhattan, where she worked at Crums Beauty Academy, and then to Topeka, where she opened a shop in her home.
After her divorce, Phyllis moved to Norton and worked for the state, inspecting beauty shops in Kansas.
She decided to settle down and moved to Cozad. Phyllis met Harlan Jensen, and they were married on Feb. 14, 1992, at the Cozad United Methodist Church.They enjoyed traveling to Wyoming, O’Neill and Topeka to see family and watch great-grandchildren participate in school activities.
Phyllis was a longtime member of Order of the Eastern Star in Marion and Cozad. She held many offices and was worthy matron in Cozad. Phyllis received 25- and 70-year pins from the order.
She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Coni Bratton.
Survivors include her son, Maurice Allen of Topeka; son-in-law Larry Bratton of Cozad; grandchildren James Bratton and wife, Tammy, of Douglas, Wyoming; Michelle Liewer and husband, Jamie, of O’Neill, Nebraska; Tim Allen of Topeka; Kellyn Hermanson and husband, Michael, of Topeka, and Annjanette Rivera and husband, Edward, of Topeka, KS; great-grandchildren Jake Bratton and wife, Amanda, of Casper, Wyoming; Bayley and Dawson Bratton of Douglas, Wyoming; Walker, Wyatt, and Wreece Liewer of O’Neill, Nebraska; Makayla, Madalyn and Mya Bayless of Topeka, and Savannah, Tobias and Marianna Rivera of Topeka; great-great-granddaughter Brynnlee Bratton of Casper, Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Memorials are suggested to Cozad Grand Generation Center or Order of Eastern Star Meridian Chapter, Cozad.

A memorial service was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Cremation was chosen.
