Poems bring award

Staff writer

Hillsboro High School junior Moriah Jost won a $600 award in an entrepreneurship challenge.

Jost entered the April 28 competition with her business “Thoughtful Words.”

She composes poems to honor loved ones of families who have services conducted by her father’s funeral home, Jost Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Her award came from Kansas State University’s Center for the Advancement of Entrepreneurship and Kansas Masonic Foundation, which sponsor the contest to give students experience in making a business proposal and pitching their ideas.

Each entrepreneur presented an executive summary and a mock boardroom session. Judges reviewed the executive summary and asked questions about their businesses, then rated the presentation.

This is not the first time Jost’s poems have been honored.

She won first place and honorable mention in Winfield’s Arts and Humanities Writing Contest.

Several of her poems have been published.

Her verses often are printed on greeting cards.
