ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.
HILLSBORO
Aug. 15 — Police investigated a parking complaint in the 400 block of S. Lincoln St. and open burning in the 400 block of S. Cedar St.
Aug. 16 — The owner of a bicycle abandoned in the 100 block of S. Ash St. was found. A complaint about a dog in the 300 block of E. D St. was investigated.
Aug. 17 — A vehicle window was broken at Tabor College and a traffic complaint was lodged in Carriage Hills subdivision.
Aug. 18 — Police investigated reports of harassment in the 200 block of E. Grand St., of a dog running free in the 300 block of N. Madison St., and of a suspicious vehicle on Industrial Rd.
Thursday — Five warnings for traffic violations were issued in a school zone. A curfew violation was reported in Memorial Park
Friday — An officer found no problem with a door lock that a resident said would not work. Police also investigated a residential alarm in the 200 block of S. Elm St, and a power line down in the 500 block of S. Lincoln St. in additional to ferrying a helicopter ambulance crew from the city airport.
Saturday — Parents of juveniles who had been on the roof of Hillsboro High School were notified. Police also investigated a parking complaint at Hillsboro Sports Complex, a dog complaint in the 100 block of S. Cedar St., and a report of a suspicious vehicle in Hillsboro Heights subdivision.
Sunday — Officers found a water leak and investigated a noise complaint in the 700 block of S. Washington St.
MARION
Aug. 16 — What was reported to be gunfire or fireworks turned out to be law enforcement officers using a shooting range south of town. Police investigated a report of a semi that snagged a cable line in the 100 block of S. Lincoln St. Melissa A. Tajchman, 29, was arrested in the 400 block of N. 3rd St. on a warrant alleging that she four times failed to appear in court. A driver was warned for speeding.
Aug. 17 — Three drivers were warned for speeding.
Aug. 18 — Police helped the driver of a disabled vehicle in the 300 block of W. Main St. and checked on the welfare of a resident in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St.
Thursday — An officer met with a person who was blowing grass clippings into a street and onto neighbors’ property. A driver was warned for speeding.
Friday — A parent showed up to claim a juvenile found in the 200 block of S. Lincoln St. The owner of a dog running free was contacted. A driver was ticketed for driving 34 mph in a 20-mph zone. Two other drivers were warned for equipment violations and speed.
Saturday — A driver was warned for speeding.
Sunday — Two dogs running free were picked up and returned to their owner. A window was damaged by a golf ball. A driver was cited for going 60 mph in a 30-mph zone and having an expired license. Three other drivers were warned for speeding.
