ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded.

HILLSBORO

Nov. 1 — People who allegedly were trespassing in the 300 block of S. Birch St. dispersed upon an officer’s arrival. A dog reported to be running free in the 200 block of N. Lincoln St. was not found.

Nov. 2 — A CarQuest employee noticed that a customer’s trailer was missing from the property. A driver was cited for running a stop sign at Adams and D Sts. Another driver was warned for an equipment violation in the 100 block of N. Ash St.

Nov. 3 — A protester at C and Prairie Pointe Sts. was found to be legally handing out information outside a county COVID-19 booster clinic. A door was found to be standing open at property in the 100 block on N. Jefferson St. A resident of the 200 block of S. Wilson St. reported a possible telephone scam.

Thursday — Police gave a hitchhiker a ride to Ampride from US-56 and Goldenrod Rd. and followed up on a loose dog that a resident dropped off at Hillsboro Animal Clinic. Police also helped someone collect personal property and set up a time at which they could stand by while additional items were collected. A driver was warned for an equipment violation in the 900 block of E. D St.

Friday — Routine activity.

Saturday — A parking complaint in the 300 block of S. Washington St. was investigated. Dogs running free in the 200 block of S. Eisenhower St. were returned to their owner. Pending results of a blood test, charges of driving under the influence of drugs may be filed against a motorist observed driving without lights, left of center, and without valid license plates. Another driver was cited for speeding in the 100 block of S. Ash St. Police also checked on a vehicle parked in front of the city library

Sunday — Golf clubs left at a car wash were picked up by police. Dogs that escaped a fenced-in area in the 200 block of Eisenhower St. were returned to their owner.

MARION

Nov. 1 — A driver was warned for having a defective headlight. A dog reported to be running free near Weldon and Lincoln Sts. was not found.

Nov. 2 — A door left open at a residence was secured. Police discussed a custody issue, warned a driver about expired registration, and found that what had been reported as diesel fuel leaking from a truck onto a roadway was actually water.

Nov. 3 — Pumpkins that reportedly were being removed from a display on W. Main St. were found in the street. Three drivers were warned about speeding. Officers checked a vacant residence per a neighbor’s request. A report of suspicious activity proved unfounded.

Thursday — The owner of two dogs running free near Roosevelt and Nickerson St. picked up the animals. Officer patrolled school zones. Four drivers were warned for speeding and equipment violations. No problems were found in checking on the welfare of a resident of the 400 block of N. 4th St.

Friday — Residents reported a possible scam. Two drivers were warned about equipment violations. An open door was discovered and secured during foot patrol of businesses. A report of a suspicious vehicle proved unfounded.

Saturday — A bicycle was found abandoned. Five drivers were warned about speeding or equipment violations. Police took a report of motorcycles illegally driving on the city’s dike in previous days.

Saturday — Police provided directions for a stranded motorist and checked on a disabled vehicle in the 1000 block of N. Cedar St. An open business door once again was found during foot patrols. A representative of the business was contacted.
