Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or end dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual date of occurrence.


Dec. 6 — A noise complaint in the 100 block of N. Washington St. was investigated. A resident’s house was checked at the absent resident’s request.

Dec. 7 — A vandal spray-painted a building, but the building owner requested that no offense report be created. A dog running free on the city’s walking trail at Lincoln St. was secured by its owner. A driver was warned for an equipment violation in the 100 block of E. Grand Ave.

Dec. 8 — A domestic situation in 200 block of Elm St. was investigated. Police helped with internet connections at Memorial Park’s Scout House and at the city airport.

Thursday — A report of shots fired in the 700 block of W. Grand Ave. turned out to be ammunition exploding in a fire pit. A motorist was cited in the 100 block of E. Grand Ave. for driving with a suspended license and not using a required breath interlock device. A parking complaint in the 500 block of E. Grand Ave. was investigated.

Friday — A non-Injury accident at Container Services’ parking lot was investigated as was a parking complaint in the 700 block of S. Washington St. A dog owner called to report that the owner’s dog was running free.

Saturday — A burglary at Hillsboro Hometown Pharmacy was investigated. A report of a reckless driver approaching Hillsboro on US-56 from McPherson County was determined to be unfounded. Police notified the owner of property a mile west of town on US-56 that hay bales were on fire.

Sunday — A dog described as hanging out at Casey’s General Store was taken to a veterinary clinic. Property at Scout House was picked up.


Dec. 6 — Three drivers were warned for speed or equipment violations. Police helped a motorist near Welch and 3rd Sts.

Dec. 7 — The owner of a dog running free was contacted. A non-injury accident near Lincoln and Lawrence Sts. was investigated. Four drivers were warned for speed or equipment violations.

Dec. 8 — An owner was contacted after an open door was discovered at a residence. A dog running free was taken to Animal Health Center. A ride to St. Luke Hospital was given to a person walking west on Main St. A caller reporting a possible theft in the 1000 block of E. Main St. left before police arrived.

Thursday — A juvenile found a piece of mail and turned it over to police.

Friday — No problems were found after an officer checked an alarm he heard while on patrol in the 1500 block of E. Lawrence St. A dog reportedly left outside in the 400 block of N. Lincoln St. was not found. Four drivers were warned for speed or equipment violations.

Saturday — Unopened and open containers of alcohol were discovered after an out-of-town driver was stopped for speeding on US-56 near Cedar St. Telephone problems were blamed for a disconnected 911 call from the 500 block of N. Freeborn St. Two drivers were warned for speed or equipment violations.

Sunday — A driver was warned for speeding. Police helped a motorist in the 700 block of N. Roosevelt St.
