ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

Feb. 7 — A driver in the 100 block of S. Main St. was cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license and no registration. Another driver was warned for speeding in the 700 block of E. Grand Ave. A vehicle reportedly being driven by a drunken driver was not located. Property that came into police custody was returned to a resident.

Feb. 8 — A trespassing complaint in the 400 block of S. Main St. was investigated.

Feb. 9 — A report of illegal parking in the 400 block of S. Washington St. was investigated. A resident was advised about state law regarding concealed weapons.

Thursday — Disgruntled former employee Kelby Schmidt, 28, was arrested after he allegedly threw a brick through a window of a former co-worker’s pickup and then drove recklessly around a parking lot at Hillsboro Industries. A dog was reported loose in the 300 block of S. Willow St. In separate traffic stops, motorists were warned for equipment violations at US-56 and Ash St. and at US-56 and Jade St. and for having no lights and not carrying a driver’s license at D and Oak Sts.

Friday — Police assisted a resident with a civil issue involving personal property. No problems were discovered when a disconnected call to 911 was checked.

Saturday — A theft reported in the 400 block of W. B St. remains under investigation. A dog loose at Dollar General was picked up by its owner. A resident walking around Tabor College was advised to leave campus after a caller thought the resident was a prowler. A driver was warned for failing to give right-of-way in the 800 block of E. D St. Police checked on the welfare of a resident in the 300 block of N. Lincoln St.

Sunday — A dog loose on Cedar St. was taken to Hillsboro Animal Clinic. Another dog, loose in the 200 block of N. Washington St., was returned to its owner. Police stood by during a civil matter, returned property that had been turned over to them, and remove debris from a roadway.

MARION

Feb. 7 — Police were asked to warn someone about trespassing.

Feb. 8 — Police met with a business manager about trespassing in the 1000 block of E. Main St., a block that includes Casey’s General Store. They also issued a trespassing warning, met with representatives of a repossession company, investigated a non-injury accident in the 400 block of E. Main St., and helped jump-start a vehicle.

Feb. 9 — A driver going 32 mph in a 20-mph zone was cited for speeding. Four other motorists were warned for speeding.

Thursday — A child found in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St. was returned home. Five drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations. One additional driver was cited for going 77 mph in a 65-mph zone and for failing to use a required ignition interlock.

Friday — An alarm accidentally was activated at Ampride,

Saturday — Two drivers were cited for speeding — one for going 88 mph and the other 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. Police met with bounty hunters in search of someone.

Sunday — A dog running free in the 1200 block of E. Main St. was returned to its owner. A motorist was warned for an equipment violation. Police met with a parent regarding an out-of-control child, with a resident to discuss suspicious activity the night before, and with a driver regarding property that had fallen from the driver’s vehicle.
