ACTIVITY REPORTS

Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.

HILLSBORO

March 7 — A domestic disturbance in the 300 block of E. 2nd St. proved to be verbal only. Police also stood by during a civil matter in that block. A dead dog reported at US-56 and Jade was not found. Two other dogs were reported loose in the 200 block of N. Washington St. A resident had a question about a lease violation. A disconnected 911 call in the 200 block of N. Jefferson St. was investigated.

March 8 — A driver was warned for not having headlights turned on. A child reportedly was harassed by other children. A disconnected 911 call from Tabor College was investigated.

March 9 — A driver was warned for having defective equipment. Residents complained about a barking dog in the 700 block of S. Washington St. and about speeding on Elm St. and asked for extra patrols near an apartment in the 100 block of N. Washington St.

Thursday — A student was “doing doughnuts” in snow in a high school parking lot. Another motorist was warned about vehicle lights at 3rd and Ash Sts. Police met with a resident and bank officials about a possible scam in which nothing was taken. Police met with Hillsboro Community Hospital staff about a patient, with the city clerk about billing issues, and with a game warden about wildlife violations. The high school boys basketball team was escorted out of town on its way to the state tournament in Manhattan.

Friday — Clothing was found in a a sports complex trash bin and other property was found at Ampride. Police were called for a child custody dispute at Casey’s General Store.

Saturday — A man waving a gun in the 400 block of S. Ash St. dropped his weapon and was taken to HCH for evaluation after a sheriff’s deputy subdued him with an electroshock weapon.

Sunday — Roadway debris was removed from US-56 at Ash St.

MARION

March 7 — Routine activities.

March 8 — Police answered questions about parking of trailers near Nickerson and Roosevelt Sts. They also helped a motorist whose vehicle broke down near Cedar and Main Sts. and investigated a non-injury accident near 2nd and Main St.

March 9 — An unsupervised child found near Lincoln and Nickerson Sts. was taken to juvenile intake. A person was ejected as a trespasser from an unidentified business. A dog loose in the 500 block of S. Freeborn St. was picked up. A vehicle door, closed the night before, was found standing open the next morning at a business in the 100 block of S. 3rd St. A driver was warned for speeding. Police checked on the welfare of a resident in the 300 block of S. Lincoln St.

Thursday — Police responded to a false alarm sounding in the 1200 block of E. Main St. A driver was warned about an equipment violation.

Friday — Police did not find a suspicious person reported in the 500 block of S. Freeborn St.

Saturday — What may have been a burglary was reported to police, who also met with a person about a civil matter.

Sunday — Police responded to a false alarm sounding in the 100 block of S. 2nd St. A driver was ticketed for going 30 mph in a 20-mph zone. No action was taken after a disturbance in the 500 block of N. Coble St. A resident complained about barking dogs. Police gave directions to a lost motorist and met with the owner of an abandoned vehicle.
