Police dog back after emergency surgery

Marion police department’s drug dog, Blue, returns to duty today after swallowing an extension cord and being rushed to emergency surgery.
Officer Aaron Slater, who serves as Blue’s handler, noticed the cord was missing and took the 2-year-old Belgian Malinois to Spur Ridge Vet Hospital.
Veterinarians x-rayed the dog and decided to transfer her to Kansas State University’s vet hospital for emergency surgery.
The Spur Ridge fee was $178.43 and KSU charged $2,179.24 for a total bill of $2,357.67.
Marion city police chief Clinton Jeffrey said there were no other vet bills for the dog’s care. Blue had her staples taken out Monday, he said.
Blue has been recovering at Slater’s home, but he admits it has been “very different” without her riding in the back.
“She’s back to normal now and everything’s good to go,” he said.
