INCIDENT REPORTS

City police departments provided these reports this week of their recent activities. Routine activities and assistance provided to other agencies are excluded.

HILLSBORO

June 24 — Disorderly conduct charges are being sought against a man involved in a verbal argument with a woman in the 400 block of N. Ash St. A suspicious vehicle in the 700 block of W. A St. was checked.

June 25 —Suspicious activity was reported in Hillsboro Heights and a motorist stuck in a ditch on 190th Rd. was helped.

June 26 — A motorist failed to pay for gasoline at Ampride, a possibly suicidal person was checked in the 400 block of S. Ash St., and an attempted scam was reported to police.

June 27 — Police took reports from a man who said someone was trying to intimidate him and of suspicious activity in the 100 block of S. 3rd St. An abandoned vehicle was reported at 3rd and Adams Sts.

June 28 — A vehicle hit a telephone junction box in the 100 block of N. Wilson St. Police investigated a complaint about fireworks in the 700 block of S. Washington St.

June 29 — Suspicious activity at the fairgrounds and vandalism in the 400 block of N. Ash St. were reported.

June 30 — Police investigated a commercial alarm in the 500 block of E. D St. and a report of suspicious activity in the 200 block of S. Wilson St.

July 1 — A gas leak in the 300 block of E. B St., a fireworks complaint at Hillsboro Aquatic Center, a suspicious vehicle in Hillsboro’s industrial park, and a concern about a resident’s welfare in the 400 block of S. Ash St. were investigated.

July 2 — Two disturbances — one in the 300 block of W. 3rd St. and the other in the 400 block of N. Ash St. — were investigated. On Ash St., a woman complained that she had locked out of an apartment.

July 3 — Police checked on an evicted resident who returned to the property along with another person, who also was ordered to leave. James Brown, 44, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and possession of marijuana, methamphetamines, and drug paraphernalia. His companion, a woman who complained of rib pain, was checked by Hillsboro EMTs. Suspicious activity in the 100 block of S. Main St. and a dog complaint in the 400 block of S. Ash St. also were investigated, a curfew violation was reported in Memorial Park, and a found item was turned in to police.

July 4 — Reports of a dog running free in the 300 block of S. Main St. and of a dog bite in the 300 block of W. 3rd St. were investigated.

July 5 — Police investigated a complaint about fireworks in the 300 block of E. 1st St. and checked on the welfare of a resident in the 600 block of S. Main St.

July 6 — Another dog complaint, this one in the 300 block of S. Adams St., and a concern about animal welfare in the 300 block of N. Ash St. were investigated.

July 7 — Dylan Horton, 18, Hillsboro, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to drive while his license was suspended

MARION

June 15 — A possible scam was reported. A missing 2-year-old was found before police arrived. An arrest warrant was served in the 100 block of N. Coble St. Motorists were warned for not having working brake lights and, at 3rd and Main Sts., for not using a turn signal. Another motorist was cited at Main and Elm Sts. for having expired insurance.

June 16 — Officers could not find a dog reportedly running free in the 300 block of S. Coble St. A non-injury accident in the 1000 block of E. Main St. was investigated. Motorists were ticketed for speeding 14 mph over the limit on US-56 at Remington Rd. and for speeding 13 mph over the limit and having no required ignition interlock in the 400 block of E. Main St. A motorist in the 200 block of Eisenhower Dr. was warned for not having an external mirror and for having an obstructed license plate

June 17 — Police investigated two unattended deaths, in the 400 block of S. Roosevelt St. and the 500 block of S. Cedar St. A motorist was warned for speeding at US-56 and Upland Rd.

June 18 — Motorists were warned in the 200 block of N. Coble St. about inappropriate driving and at Main and Elm St. for having a faulty headlight. Officers observed suspicious activity in the 200 block of Walnut St.

June 19 — Reports of assault and battery at Marion County Transfer Station and of a disruptive spectator at the ballpark were investigated. A door was found unsecured downtown.

June 20 — Reports of possible disorderly conduct, of possible fraud, and of illegal dumping at the site tree dump were investigated. A motorist in the 200 block of N. 3rd St. was warned about a faulty brake light, and another motorist was warned about texting and driving.

June 21 — A large snake found in the 100 block of S. Cedar St. was relocated to a rural area. Police took a stray dog to a veterinarian, contacted the owner of dogs that were running free, and learned that the owner of another dog in the 400 block of N. Lincoln St. was attempting to find it. Suspicious activity in the 200 block of S. Thorp St. was investigated. Two officers checked strange noises reported around a house. A motorist was warned about blue lights visible beneath the motorist’s vehicle. A reportedly speeding Volkswagen could not be found.

June 22 — Participants in a disturbance in the 100 block of N. Freeborn St. were warned. A report of license plates being swapped at Casey’s General Store turned out to be a false alarm. An open door on a van near Hudson and Lincoln Sts. was secured.

June 23 — A dog found in the 400 block of S. 3rd St. was returned to its owner, and another dog found in the 100 block of W. Main St. was taken to a veterinarian. An open door was secured downtown. Stolen property found elsewhere was returned to its owner.

June 24 — A open bottle of liquor was confiscated from the bed of a pickup truck, the underage driver of which was also warned for having a faulty taillight. Another motorist was warned for texting while driving, and a third was cited for having an expired license plate. A fourth motorist had just purchased a vehicle and had the wrong tag on it. Officers also investigated an animal complaint in the 100 block of N. Roosevelt St.

June 25 — A motorist clocked for speeding on Main St. got away, but sheriff’s deputies caught the driver on 190th Rd. doing 107 mph, 52 mph over the speed limit. A theft was reported in the 300 block of Elm St. Officers checked an open door and lights that were left on at the city fire station. Owners were warned about having three dogs without tags. Officers stood by during a civil dispute on N. Roosevelt St.

June 26 —A dog running free was captured and taken to a veterinarian. An elderly walker who appeared in distress at the high school track turned out to be fine.

June 27 — A robber battered a clerk at Ampride, did an estimated $700 damage and stole more than $4,000 in cash. Police warned an erratic driver traveling from Hillsboro to Marion; the driver claimed to be sleep-deprived while working two jobs and delivering newspapers. Police also investigated a dog complaint.

June 28 — Routine activities.

June 29 — Police spoke to parents and the coach about two reports of high school football players going too fast around corners to get to early morning practice at the stadium. In investigating a report of an “accidental” dog bite, officers issued four citations for two dogs running free and without tags. An arrest warrant was served in the 100 block of W. Main St. and a disconnected 911 call from the 200 block of Garfield St. was investigated. Three warnings were issued to motorists.

June 30 — A disconnected 911 call from the 400 block of N. Freeborn St. was investigated. A motorist on US-56 was ticketed for speeding 12 mph over the limit.
