Police investigate prowler reports

Hillsboro police investigated two separate reports of prowlers atop buildings Saturday.
The first occurred in the afternoon at Hillsboro High School. A neighbor reported hearing a ceramic tile break on the ground.
Police Chief Dan Kinning said a youth event was going on inside the school at the time.
“There were kids in the building, but they didn’t have access to the roof,” Kinning said. “We checked the roof door, and it was locked. You need a key to get on the roof from the inside.”
Around 11 p.m., police said, a man walking in the 100 block of N. Main St. reported several silhouettes perched atop Olde Town Restaurant and told officials he yelled at them.
Kinning said the man could not identify the prowlers because they were cloaked in shadow.
“It was probably kids screwing around,” he said. “But you always wonder if it might be burglars.”
Nothing was reported missing or damaged on the restaurant.
If the shadowy figures had been caught, the charges would have been trespassing.
“We’ll keep an eye on it, but there are so many buildings that it probably happens more than we know,” Kinning said. “It’s not the first time we’ve had reports of dark figures.”
