Pool praise
To the editor:
This time of year, I really try to count my blessings. One blessing that comes to mind is the wonderful aquatic center we have here in Marion. It is amazing!
That brings up another blessing I’m grateful for. We are so blessed to have the talents, experience, and credentials that Kristine Meyerson brings to the facility. She is the aquatic director at Marion. She formerly was the director of 28 YMCAs in Houston.
She was instrumental in publication of the YMCA safety manual, “Water Wise,” and she received a $4,000 grant to teach safety to second graders here at Marion.
I watched her one day with those second graders. She was amazing with the kids. She taught them to stay calm and what to do if they fell out of a boat.
There was no doubt in my mind that she is saving lives by her preventive measures.
She has worked on scheduling, trying to be open at the best times to accommodate most people.
She teaches water aerobics and customizes it to accommodate everyone’s physical abilities. She provides a great workout and has increased the number of participants.
She keeps us well informed about any schedule changes and pool closures. The pool and bathrooms are kept very clean. She has brought many new events, such as an Easter egg hunt.
I have talked to people who drove here from Salina to visit the pool and had a great time. They said they definitely would come back.
She offers swimming lessons, swimming classes for special education students, parent and child classes, and a camp to train lifeguards.
She has worked hard to bring more interest to the pool. I thank God and everyone else who brought her to us.
Blessings to all.
