Program gets an A+

A boon for teachers, parents

Staff writer

Monica Leihy has experience with USD 410’s Skyward online grade-book as a parent and a teacher, and she doesn’t mince words about it.

“It is a dream,” Leihy said.

Leihy is the family and consumer sciences teacher at Hillsboro High School, and she has children attending school in USD 410.

USD 410 has had the system about four years, Hillsboro Middle School secretary Pati Funk said. It is used for all grades, K-12.

In addition to letting students and their parents check grades from home, Skyward can be used to keep track of things like attendance, school lunches, and discipline, she said.

“We’re very satisfied with it,” Funk said.

The district hasn’t had much feedback from parents about the system, but there is evidence they are using it.

Leihy likes that Skyward does the math of figuring grades. She said she taught before Skyward was in place, and it is much better than sitting down with a pen, paper, and a calculator. As a parent, she likes being able to get assignments for children when they are sick.

Parents are given a login and password for the system, which is accessed from the school district’s Web site, www.usd410.net. The link to the Skyward system is on the left side of the page.
