Prosecutor to investigate Burns

Staff writer

County attorney Joel Ensey is investigating possible violations of the state open meetings law by the Burns city council.

Ruckuses at recent meetings have had a sheriff’s deputy summoned and the city police chief clear the room.

Ensey said that before an article appeared in the Record, he’d spoken to only one person about ongoing problems at city council meetings.

“The only person I’ve talked to is Brian Castleberry,” Ensey said. “I think I’ve got talk to them.”

The open meetings law, which county attorneys are charged with enforcing, presents a wide array of remedies ranging from requiring council members to get training in open meetings law to fining them for each violation of the law if they are convicted.
