Mother Nature came through again for residents of Marion County.

Rain that began falling early Monday morning produced 1 to 2 inches or more throughout the county, just days after Kansas was officially reported to be in extreme drought.

Grain elevator managers said farmers were pleased with the rain. John Ottensmeier, manager of Cooperative Grain and Supply elevator in Marion, said farmers have not said a whole lot, but the smiles on their faces and a change in their temperament says it all.

They never know what the weather will do later on, he said, but for now, they are happy.

“Better late than never,” said Roger Will, manager of Tampa Agri-Trails elevator. “Everybody is pretty happy. Things are starting to green up. It will definitely help.”

Unofficial precipitation reports included 1 to 1.15 inches in the Durham area, 1.30 at Lehigh, 1.5 at Marion and Lincolnville, 1.70 at Goessel, and 2 inches at Hillsboro.
