Ramona plans July 4th celebration
The Greenhorns will perform at 7 p.m. July 4 as part of Ramona’s annual Fourth of July celebration. Admission will be free.
Attendees should bring lawn chairs.
More than $700 in prizes will be awarded at a parade, beginning at 6 p.m.
There will also be a $100 prize for the best redneck family in the parade. Contest rules are at http://www.redneckinramona.com. The theme is Hillbilly Redneck. Prizes will be awarded for floats, vehicles (anything with wheels), animals, patriotic, and walking entries and in children’s and teen’s categories.
Free registration is 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. July 4 at the city park on Fourth Street.
Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. with a two-mile run/walk and a 10-kilometer race. A breakfast featuring biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, and drinks will be served 8 to 10 a.m. at Ramona Senior Center. Donations will benefit the senior center and Ramona Park.
At 2 p.m., the James Weber memorial three-on-three basketball tournament will begin. A lawnmower obstacle course will open at 3 p.m. Children can participate in a water slide, games, a dunk tank, and covered wagon rides.
After the parade, a tractor pull will begin. Children may participate in a pie-eating contest and adults in Spam carving. First prizes in each will be $25.
