Ramona plans July 4th celebration

The Greenhorns will perform at 7 p.m. July 4 as part of Ramona’s annual Fourth of July celebration. Admission will be free.

Attendees should bring lawn chairs.

More than $700 in prizes will be awarded at a parade, beginning at 6 p.m.

There will also be a $100 prize for the best redneck family in the parade. Contest rules are at The theme is Hillbilly Redneck. Prizes will be awarded for floats, vehicles (anything with wheels), animals, patriotic, and walking entries and in children’s and teen’s categories.

Free registration is 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. July 4 at the city park on Fourth Street.

Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. with a two-mile run/walk and a 10-kilometer race. A breakfast featuring biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, and drinks will be served 8 to 10 a.m. at Ramona Senior Center. Donations will benefit the senior center and Ramona Park.

At 2 p.m., the James Weber memorial three-on-three basketball tournament will begin. A lawnmower obstacle course will open at 3 p.m. Children can participate in a water slide, games, a dunk tank, and covered wagon rides.

After the parade, a tractor pull will begin. Children may participate in a pie-eating contest and adults in Spam carving. First prizes in each will be $25.
