Richard Herbel

Services for Centre High School graduate Richard Herbel, 75, of Solomon, who died March 13 at Abilene Memorial Hospital, were Monday.

Born Dec. 7, 1943, to Alex and Bernice Johnston Herbel, he graduated in 1961 and on Jan. 19, 1964, married Sharon Craft, who survives.

After serving as a police officer in Herington and Abilene and as Dickinson County undersheriff, he worked for 28 years at Yellow Freight.

Other survivors include brother Ronald Herbal of Marion, daughters Shelly Cole and Julie Klein of Abilene, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Brother Kenneth Herbel preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established with Hospice of Dickinson County and Community Bible Church of Abilene.
