Since October of 2014, various county groups have gotten to know Renae Riedy as their family consumer and science agent for the Kansas State University extension office in Marion.
As of March 31, Riedy will say farewell as she starts a new adventure at the extension office in Dickenson County, where she lives on a farm with her family.
“If I could have moved to Marion, I would have,” Riedy said. “You can’t move a farm.”
Along with being closer to home, the commute to work will shorten.
“I knew (about the drive) when I took it,” Riedy said, “but I didn’t expect a position in Dickenson to open up so quickly.”
Riedy said she has relished helping with every group she has encountered, including 4-H families, an exercising class she has taught, speaking at senior centers, and helping with nutrition education.
Riedy hopes all of the activities she has helped with will continue.
“I definitely hope that the nutrition grant continues on,” Riedy said. “It seems as though the need is there for more education on nutrition, so we really hope that continues, but I don’t have any reason to think that it won’t.”
Riedy said she will miss many things about Marion County, including her supportive co-workers, but one thing stuck out in her mind the most.
“People here have been so welcoming and so willing to work with me,” Riedy said. “The people are wonderful.”
