Rodeo, demolition derby to offer thrills

If seeing 4-H projects, watching judging, and enjoying watermelon and food from vendors isn’t enough fun, this year’s fair has four major entertainment events.

Tonight and Thursday

Marion County Fair’s Kraft rodeo, scheduled for 8 p.m. both tonight and Thursday, will offer bareback riding, ranch style broncos, bull riding, a ladies’ barrel race, calf roping, breakaway roping, team roping, mini bull riding, and mutton bustin’.

The rodeo will begin at 7 p.m. each night with kids’ calf roping and mutton bustin’.

Friday

Friday’s special entertainment will be a lawnmower, kids’ four-wheeler, and dirt bike race at 7 p.m.

Saturday

Possibly the noisiest event of the fair will be the demolition derby at 7 p.m.

The derby might be slightly different from past years.

“We have a new promoter,” fair manager Michelle Hajek said.

Categories will include bone stock, super stock, compact, and figure 8 classes.

Admission

Admission for each special event is $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 6 to 12.

Admission buttons are available at Carlsons’ in Marion and Ampride in Hillsboro for $20.

The fair board will have a beer garden all four evenings.

Hillsboro Lions Club will have a concession stand, and food trucks will be at the fairgrounds.
