Because of wet conditions Thursday in Peabody, the cross-country course was modified to keep runners out of extremely muddy areas. The Goessel runners did well in spite of a slightly longer course.
Laird Goertzen grabbed eighth place out of 66 runners and Brittny Czarnowsky earned a 12th-place medal in the girls division out of 36 competitors.
In the boys’ race, Laird Goertzen finished in 19 minutes, 41.62 seconds, Nathan Czarnowsky at 23:05.97, Grant Flaming came in at 23:55.23, one place ahead of teammate Stephan Goertzen at 23:57.42.
Ben Wiens ran the course in 27:38.33 and Garrett Woelk ended the race at 29:04.00.
Brittny Czarnowsky crossed the finish line in 18:27.72 in the girls’ race.
Goessel competed Tuesday at Southeast of Saline and will run in the Marion meet Thursday.
