Ruth E. Franzen, 89, died Nov. 16, 2011.
She was born Jan. 28, 1922, in Hillsboro to Jacob H. and Katharina (Quiring) Franzen. She was a retired college professor.
She was a lifelong member of First Mennonite Church in Hillsboro and an associate member of Bethel College Mennonite Church.
She graduated from Bethel College and Emporia State University and attended Kansas State University and the University of Kansas. She worked her entire life in academia, teaching both at K-State and KU, and spending 30 years as associate professor of design, housing, and apparel at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. Her final home was Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton.
She was preceded in death by sisters Dorothea and Wanda Franzen.
A memorial service was held Monday at Bethel College Mennonite Church after viewing and a graveside service.
