Transfer Station Director Rollin Schmidt told commissioners Monday he would have to find a better way to secure the station after it was broken into during the weekend.
Schmidt said burglars broke into one of the windows on the north side of the station, then kicked open the office door and stole around $80 cash. There was minimal damage.
He said nothing else was missing.
In other business:
- Commissioners signed a resolution approving a conditional use permit for a new bait shop on 230th Rd. between Old Mill and Pawnee Rds. Owners Tony and Rachael Naerebout were present with Planning and Zoning Director Tonya Richards to discuss sizes and sites to place directional signs, to lead customers to the shop.
- Road and Bridge Superintendent Randy Crawford discussed buying two new dump trucks with commissioners, but no action was taken. Assistants Jesse Hamm and Bud Druse were also on hand to begin planning a re-build of Newell Road near Peabody.
- Appraiser Ray Cook spoke with commissioners about value notices and upcoming hearings, which have to be scheduled by May 20. Cook also spoke briefly about hiring new data collectors, expressing a desire for two more even though the budget may not allow it. Commissioner Randy Dallke asked Cook to submit a list of values in Peabody, Burns, Goessel, and Florence city limits from 2013 and 2014.
