School board OKs staff mental health training
Hillsboro’s school board Monday approved a mental health training day for faculty Feb. 10.
Faculty will earn certificates in mental health first aid, a topic that is often overlooked, superintendent Max Heinrichs said.
“We think it’s pretty important,” Heinrichs said. “We always think about physical health but we don’t necessarily think about mental health. We’re trying to equip our teachers first.”
Future training is planned for students and adults.
Stephanie Sinclair resigned as assistant softball coach to take Hillsboro’s head coach position.
An executive session was also held, during which an evaluation was done for Heinrichs. The evaluation will be used when his contract is discussed in January.
